Tips For Good Brazilian Waxing Results

Brazilian waxing first came to North America in the late 1980s, but didn’t gain widespread popularity until the later 1990s. The procedure removes all the hair in the pubic region, front and back. In some cases, a small strip of hair is left in the center, but total hair removal is more common. The smooth look is very popular in Brazil where thong bikinis for sun tanning are so common.
Not all beauty salons offer this form of waxing. Brazilian requires an experienced technician. When the technician works fast, there is less pain associated with the procedure. This form of waxing is more common in major cities, such as Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia. As the procedure gains popularity, it becomes available in more areas.

The Brazilian Waxing Procedure

The technician will start by trimming your pubic hair. The hair only needs to be a quarter of an inch long to get good results. After the hair is trimmed, the technician will spread the wax across the area in the direction of hair growth. Cloth strips are then pressed onto the wax and allowed to cool. Once the wax cools, the strips are ripped off in the direction opposite of hair growth. This pulls the hair out by the root. Any stray hairs will then be plucked with a tweezer. A soothing lotion is applied after the procedure to cool the skin and soothe irritation.

Tips for Good Results

o The hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch long before the procedure. If you shave your pubic hair, allow it to grow back in prior to your session.

o Red bumps caused by ingrown hairs may occur after your session. This can be helped by exfoliating the skin. They are less likely to occur after repeated waxing sessions.

o You will need to wait at least three weeks in between sessions for the hair to grow back. The procedure will last anywhere from four to seven weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows.

o Some salons offer this procedure for both men and women; others only offer it for women. Check with the salon before scheduling an appointment.

o The degree of pain associated with this procedure varies according to your pain threshold and the amount and texture of the hair. A fast moving technician is best for reducing pain.

Caring for Your Skin After Waxing

Proper care will help prevent ingrown hairs and extend the time needed in between sessions. Use a soothing lotion to reduce irritation after your session. Lavender is a common ingredient in these lotions. The skin in this area is very soft and can be easily irritated by the wax process. Cleaning the area regularly will prevent and help heal this irritation.

Ingrown hairs are common after hair removal procedures. Exfoliate the skin regularly to help relieve and prevent ingrown hairs. You can use a commercial exfoliating product, a loofah or a wash cloth. A warm, damp washcloth held to the area helps heal ingrown hairs.

Tips for Sparkling White Teeth

There’s more to keeping you pearly whites precisely that than a bit of brushing and the odd visit to a dentist. Take a look at these dental dos and don’ts.

#1 Avoid Fizzy Drinks
Carbonated drinks (including the diet variety and sparkling water) can cause your teeth to look older than they really are. These drinks are so highly acidic that they can actually dissolve the upper layers of the tooth. They contain high amounts of phosphorus - a mineral that can leach calcium from your bones if you consume too much and some scientists believe they can weaken your jawbone, increasing the chance of losing teeth.

Some researchers believe calcium is first robbed not from your hips or spine but from your jaw, leading to tooth loss. We see a number of young people who have the jaws of much older people, because of poor dietary habits such as drinking soda, along with not getting enough calcium.

#2 Chew your Food
Foods that work on the teeth like detergents are foods that require chewing. Apples, celery and carrots clean teeth naturally and foods such a spinach, lettuce and broccoli prevent staining by creating a film on the teeth that acts like a barrier. Major strainers will take their toll on your smile sooner of later, so steer clear of tea, coffee, red wine, and highly pigmented foods such as cherries and blueberries anything in fact, that will stain a white shirt.

#3 Don’t take Drugs
Ecstasy causes jaw clenching in users. A study found that 60 per cent of ecstasy users examined had worn their teeth through the enamel and into the underlying dentine, compared with only 11 per cent of non-users. As for cocaine rubbed on gums, it restricts blood flow, traumatizes the tissue and inhibits nutrition of the gums. Remember gums keep teeth in place.

#4 Quit Smoking
Smoking causes staining of the teeth and bad breath and increases the risk of oral cancer and gum disease, as it constricts blood flow to the gums. In fact, some gum specialists feel it’s not worth providing advanced treatment for gum disease in smokers, as there is very little chance of improvement. Smoking one pack a day for 10 years can cause a 10 per cent loss of bone support. Long term studies reveal that most tooth loss in 19 to 40 year olds is associated with smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day.

#5 Beware Bleaching
A professionally applied whitening system will not damage teeth. But some over the counter bleaches are so acidic; they can cause surface loss and sensitivity.

#6 Stop Biting Nails
Habitual nail chewers damage more than their cuticles; they can damage their teeth, too. If you have weakened enamel, you end up with an exposed, dented, soft area in the center of the tooth. And that’s when the problem occurs. The denting is much softer than the enamel and if exposed to bad habits such as chewing nails, opening beer bottles, it will wear down. Often the middle part dissolves quicker than the outside and the brittle enamel is very prone to chipping, making the teeth look uneven and unattractive.

Trouble Shooting Residential Tanning Beds

A residential tanning bed is often purchased by individuals who want to have a tan without bothering to dress up and go to a tanning salon. A tanning bed at home makes it more convenient for a person to get that wonderful tan. But a residential tanning bed also means additional responsibility for the owner. Technology is never perfect, like the humans who use them. Thus, the home tanning bed may be subject to several problems. Fortunately, the owner of such tanning bed need not call a technician every time something goes wrong with it. Here is a guide that will be useful for the owner of a residential tanning bed.

If the bed refuses to start or to turn on, there could be four possible reasons:

1. There is no power supplied to the bed
2. There is a bad relay
3. There is a loose at the relay
4. There is a loose wire at the dial timer

The owner must inspect the plug and the breaker to make sure that there is power going to the bed. If the relay is bad, then there is no other way to fix the bed but to replace the relay. As for loose wires, all the owner has to do is to tighten the loose connection.

If the lamps don’t light up, there are five possible causes:

1. Malfunctioning lamps
2. Malfunctioning ballast
3. Malfunctioning lamp holder
4. Malfunctioning starter
5. A loose wire at the ballast, or at the lamp holder or at the terminal

For any malfunctioning part of the tanning bed, the owner will need to replace it. The owner should not attempt to fix it by himself. For the loose wire, the owner may just tighten the loose connection.

If the bench lamps will not light up, the cause could be any of these:

1. The bench is not plugged into the canopy
2. A loose wire in the connector between the bench and the canopy
3. The wire in the bench-to-canopy connector may be burnt

The owner must check if the bench is securely plugged into the canopy. If not, he should correct the situation. The loose wire needed only a tightening. But if the wire is burnt, the owner must retrieve some electrical tools so that he can strip the wire and replace the connector.

If the lamps do not work well but the fans are working fine, there are only two things to check:

1. The relay
2. The wire either at the terminal block or the relay

The owner must check whether the relay is malfunctioning or not. If it is not working properly, this relay should be replaced. Any loose wire at the terminal block or at the relay can be corrected by tightening the connection.

For other tanning bed troubles, it is best that the owner consults the technician of the tanning bed supplier.

Tips on How to Maintain a Sunless Tan

There are practical reasons why sunless tanning is much better than any other forms of tanning. One of those reasons is the ease of maintaining a sunless tan. It is a common knowledge and it is evident that sunless tanning is much more convenient. To get it, you need only to apply to your skin specific sunless tanning products like lotions, sprays, gels or creams. You can do so anywhere you are, whatever other significant chores or tasks you are doing. Moreover, you can do sunless tanning alone.

Like any other form of tan using all products and techniques available, it is inevitable that skin tan fades through time. It is a general knowledge that the human skin is completely renewing itself every 30 days to 45 days. That is the reason why small and exterior scars and marks can easily and naturally go off after more than a month. That natural process of skin renewal is also based on the fact that the human skin is consistently wearing off dead skin cells.

Before finally getting to know measures to maintain a sunless tan, it would be helpful and ideal if the natural coloration process in the skin would be further and more clearly understood. As you see, tan is produced when the skin produces enough melanin that gives the skin its rosy or brownish color. The more the skin is exposed to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from artificial sources like UV lamps in tanning beds and booths, the more it produces melanin and the more tanned the skin would appear. Sunbathing and indoor tanning at tanning beds produce melanin in the basal layer, which is the deepest part of the skin epidermis.

In sunless tanning, melanin production and coloration is done at a shallower stratum corneum, which is the outer part of the skin epidermis. To understand sunless tanning more, be informed that sunless tanning products prompt skin coloration through interaction of basic ingredients with the skin’s dead cells, which are abundant in the outer skin layer.

Practical guidelines for sunless tan maintenance

Thus, with that basic understanding of sunless tanning occurrence and effect to the skin, it would be easier to understand and set sunless tan maintenance measures. Here are some simple and practical tips on how to do so.

• Once the tan manifests signs of fading, you could immediately re-apply your particular sunless skin tanning product. If you are satisfied with the tan you have got, then continue using the product. If you want more, or if the tan was too much, try other forms. Sunless tanning products can be in creams, gels, sprays and lotions. Usually, sunless tans last about a week. Wearing off a dead skin cells is natural and inevitable, so there is nothing you can do to prevent fading of sunless tan. Maintenance, however, is as easy as getting it initially.

• Hydrate your skin always from inside and out. Do not let your skin run and feel dry. At the same time, maintain skin hydration by drinking adequate water and juices. Keeping the skin hydrated somehow helps slow wearing off of dead skin cells. And if dead skin cells are kept for prolonged duration, so is sunless skin tan.

• Avoid exfoliating the skin while aiming to prolong or maintain the sunless tan. Skin products with alcohol and strong cleansing bases are not ideal for sunless tan maintenance.

Alternative use of a bronzer

There is one alternative the usual forms of sunless tanning. That is the use of bronzer. If you are keen on maintaining sunless tan, bronzer can pose a good option for you. Unlike all other forms and techniques to getting a sunless tan, bronzers are temporary skin tanning. To set the difference, all other sunless tanning products give out a desired skin coloration that would last for about a week, whereas bronzer would only last until it is washed off from the skin.

Thus, bronzer could be a great sunless tanning alternative. Bronzers are usually moisturizers and powders that are applied on the skin to give the skin surface an appearance as if it had undergone a normal tanning process. Good thing about bronzer is that it is washed off once the skin is washed through sweating, taking a shower or bathing.

Troublesome Dry Skin

Dry skin can be a blessing but more often it is troublesome. Those with dry skin generally need not worry about blemishes except for the occasional stray that appears from hormonal changes or stress. But dry skin looks dull and flaky. And worse, it can emphasize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Age and the environment are two factors that contribute to this skin type. Over time, the sebaceous glands within the dermis layer slow their production of sebum, the body's natural moisturizer. The skin's ability to retain moisture also lessens as we grow older. This is caused by the breakdown of the intracellular matrix, the collagen and elastin layer that helps hold skin tissue together. When this layer begins to break apart, it becomes more difficult for skin to hold in moisture. As moisture escapes, skin becomes drier.

Other causes of dry skin include climates that are arid, windy and dry. Use of harsh soaps and detergents and too much unprotected exposure to the sun's damaging rays can also negatively influence skin. Genetics plays a role as well.

How do I know I have dry skin?

First consider where you live. Windy areas and areas with low humidity cause dryness by stripping skin of its natural oils. Living in areas where winters are cold causes skin trouble as well. Even if you don't spend much time outdoors, interior heaters as well as air conditioning units in hot, dry climates can sap the air of moisture and cause dry skin.

Visible indicators of dry skin include skin that flakes easily. Plus, dry skin often looks tight and taut because pore openings are very tiny. If you don't yet see these tell-tale signs of dry skin but you're at or approaching mid-life, it's time to start looking.

Caring for dry skin

If you have dry skin, proper care involves retaining as much moisture as possible. One way is to avoid using products containing alcohol because alcohol dries. Recommended ingredients for dry skin include alpha hydroxy, lactic acids, petroleum, lanolin and glycerin so take time to read product labels.

Dry skin won't always feel like it needs to be cleansed, but it does, twice daily, morning and night. Using a gentle cleanser made especially for skin that's dry, cleanse using warm, not hot water. Finish off with a cool rinse. It's never a good idea to use hot water to clean any type of skin or to soak in a tub because doing so will only strip skin of its natural oils.

After washing your skin, pat it dry using a soft towel. Then apply a light moisturizer. Those containing Vitamin E are excellent choices. If you wear make-up choose foundations that contain the moisturizing ingredients mentioned above.

Help keep skin hydrated by drinking water and increasing your consumption of high water content foods such as cucumbers and watermelon. Most fruits and vegetables are excellent hydrating foods plus they're excellent sources of important vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Antioxidants are crucial in helping maintain the skin's intracellular matrix.

TLC For Tired Toes

Feet: They take us anywhere and everywhere we want to go, but they also take lots of abuse. A typical day of walking exerts a force equal to several hundred tons on your feet.

One of the best ways to revive your tired toes is a pedicure - either at home or at the spa. Because when your feet feel good, your whole body feels refreshed and energized.

According to a recent American Podiatric Medical Association survey, 25 percent of women perform at-home pedicures, while 34 percent have indulged in salon or spa pedicures. Whichever way you pamper your feet, do it safely. Here are some tips from APMA member podiatrist Dr. Marlene Reid:

1. Soothe your soles. Smoothing away calluses on the heels, balls and sides of your feet will make them feel better. Use a pumice stone, foot file or foot scrub. You can make your own scrub by combining olive oil and sea salt. Avoid using a foot razor, which can remove too much skin and cause infection and permanent damage if used incorrectly.

2. Dry up. After soaking feet, make sure to thoroughly rinse off the scrub or other products and pat feet dry. Pay close attention to moisture between the toes, which can can lead to athlete's foot or other fungal infections.

3. Snip the tips. Toenails should be trimmed to just above the top of each toe. Use a straightedged toenail clipper to ensure nails do not become curved or rounded in the corners.

4. Make a clean sweep. Run a wooden or rubber manicure stick under nails to remove any dirt trapped underneath. Be very gentle and never use a sharp tool to clean under your nail or you may puncture the skin, leaving it vulnerable to infection.

5. Shape them up. Smooth nail edges by filing toenails with an emery board. File lightly in one direction to smooth the edge of the nail without drastically rounding the corners of the nail; don't saw back and forth.

6. Care for cuticles. Moisturize cuticles with a cuticle cream or hand cream, then gently push them back with a rubber cuticle pusher or manicure stick. Cuticles serve as a protective barrier against bacteria entering the body and should never be cut.

7. Polish up. Nail polish locks out moisture and doesn't allow the nail or the nail bed to "breathe." Paint toes only if you have healthy nails and remove polish regularly with a non-acetone nail polish.

Truth About Low Fat Diets Benefits

A national study recently revealed telling facts regarding low-fat diets and their benefits relating to cancer and heart disease. A study concluded by the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) and Stanford University noted that a low-fat diet, alone, is not enough to greatly reduce the risk of heart disease and/or cancer in adult women. Researchers have found that a reduction in saturated and trans fats may provide more positive results.

The study showed that women who participate in a low-fat diet experienced a 9% reduction in the development of breast cancer. In addition, no significant changes were noted in the occurrence of heart disease. An impressive 49,000 females, ranging in age from 50 to 79, participated in what is known as the America’s largest long-term study of a low-fat diet to ever be noted. The research was conducted over a period of eight years, in which the experts planned to test the theory that low-fat diets were helpful in reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Among the 49,000 subjects, 40% were assigned to a low-fat diet, which required that they reduce their fat intake to 20% of their total calorie intake. In addition, they were to eat fruits and vegetables on five or more instances throughout the day, along with six servings of grain. The remaining 60% of participants were designated as the comparison group and were instructed to maintain their eating habits as always.

Women’s Health Initiative experts, however, noted that a number of low-fat diet participants did not meet the 20% fat intake goal. In a recent news report released from Stanford University, experts conveyed that women who wish to maintain their health should consider a diet that is both low in saturated and trans fats while being rich in fiber and vegetables. This diet would replace one that is geared solely toward the intake of low-fat foods.

“Just switching to low-fat foods is not likely to yield much health benefit in most women,” commented Marcia Stefanick, PhD, professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center and chair of the Women’s Health Initiative steering committee. “Rather than trying to eat low-fat, women should focus on reducing saturated fats and trans fats.”

In addition to any diet program, regular exercise and health screenings should be used for early detection and the most effective treatment.

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for diet and/or exercise regimens. Every individual should consult his/her physician prior to beginning any program consisting of diet and/or exercise.

To Keep Makeup Looking Fresh, Take A Powder

Beauty expert and renowned makeup artist Sonia Kashuk, who has worked with the world's top models, answers your questions and offers tips, tricks and tools to help you look your best.

Q: My makeup always looks great right after I've applied it but after a few hours it fades. How do you make your makeup last throughout the day?

A: The answer may surprise you…whether the product says "long-wearing" or not, you can keep your makeup looking fresh from dusk 'til dawn by using proper application techniques. The greatest trick I have learned over the years: Loose powder is your complexion's best friend!

• Concealer-Gently dot concealer and blend using your finger or concealer brush around the under-eye area. Seal coverage by lightly sweeping the area with a small powder brush dusted with sheer, loose powder.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Barely There Loose Powder in Translucent Matte.

• Cream Blush-I am a firm believer that less is more…especially with cream products. Because of its consistency, it is the nature of cream blush to move on the face. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply a dusting of sheer loose powder over the cheeks after you have applied the blush to keep it where it belongs-on your cheeks.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Crème Blush Duo in Color My World or Brighten My Day.

• Eyeliner-Eyeliner smudges by nature, but tends to look sexier when slightly imperfect. Rather than using black, which can look harsh, I often recommend trying navy blue.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Eye Definer in Midnight. Tip: For a strong, solid line, use a liquid liner for precision and stay-put finish.

• Lipstick/Lip Gloss-There are products on the market made specifically to prevent feathering, and a secret trick of mine that I always use if I don't have my Lip Glossing/No Feather Pencil on me is to dab foundation on your fingertip and smooth it over your lip line. This smooths out any lines around the mouth and provides an even surface for lip color to adhere…and stick to.

Q: How do I know what makeup colors work best for my coloring?

A: Here's a surprising tip: To identify colors that will work for you, use your hair as a guide, not your eyes! If you're blonde, go with creams and taupes. Brunettes look great in mochas and chocolate browns. If you're auburn or a redhead, choose shades of copper and peach, or cool tones like pinks and lavenders. Gray hair looks gorgeous with tones of grays, soft purples and blues.

If you're unsure about colors, stick to neutrals. You can still achieve drama and variety with neutral tones-they're actually my favorite to work with. Or, to make it really simple, pick up one of my new Face Palettes, which are designed to correspond to your specific hair hue for expertly coordinated, complementary colors.

Sonia Kashuk Beauty is available exclusively at Target stores.

Do you know your best makeup colors? Beauty Expert Sonia Kashuk can help.

Tumescent Abdominoplasty

Plastic surgery is definitively a medical procedure, but there is also an artistic element to it. This brings us to the subject of tumescent abdominoplasty.

Tumescent Abdominoplasty

One of the most popular methods of liposuction is tumescent abdominoplasty. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure commonly performed to remove excess fat deposits in localized areas permanently, which are resistant to exercise and traditional diet programs. Tumescent Abdominoplasty is also recommended for patients suffering from morbid obesity.

Tumescent abdominoplasty involves the use of advanced techniques to guarantee permanent results by filling and swelling the fatty areas to be removed, thus the name tumescent, literally meaning "to swell". Tumescent abdominoplasty is performed by filling large volumes of fatty areas with a special solution before the surgical procedure. The solution used by surgeons has the effect of a local anesthetic facilitating the surgery and preventing the use of heavy intravenous sedation or general anesthesia that might be risky for some persons. Additionally, the solution makes adrenalin that constricts the blood vessels, reducing bleeding to negligible amounts in comparison with other liposuction methods.

By means of small tubes called cannulas, the patient is connected to a suction syringe or device that extracts the fat in a safe manner that also facilitates a quick recovery. Fatty deposits removed in very specific areas allow the surgeon to sculpt artistically any body into a new shape with the aid of delicate instruments.

There is minimal pain involved in tumescent abdominoplasty. Most clinics use natural therapies to relieve it such as listening to sedative music or friendly talking during the application of the solution which is the time when some pain may occur. The removing and sculpting procedure on fatty deposits does not cause pain by in and of itself.

Patients who undergo this cosmetic surgery often refer to the procedure as comparable to a deep massage session. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, a patient can cooperate with the surgeon by changing position if necessary to optimize the results. Compared to traditional invasive liposuction, this is a drastic improvement.

The anesthetic effect of the solution applied before the procedure generally lasts for nearly 24 hours after which patients may experience light soreness that usually disappears alone after 1 or 2 weeks. From all the abdominoplasty techniques, including dry technique, wet technique, Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL), Power Assisted Techniques (PAL), etc, Tumescent Abdominoplasty is safest method of liposuction available today.

If you are considering a procedure to address hard to get at areas of fat, tumescent abdominoplasty may be a perfect option. Make sure to discuss the applicability of the procedure to your situation with your plastic surgeon.

Today's Orthodontic Treatment: Comfortable, Convenient

Brace yourself: As a result of innovations in orthodontic materials, orthodontists are able to provide today's patients with a comfortable and convenient experience while working toward the ultimate goal of a healthy, beautiful smile, a good bite and improved facial appearance.

Traditional braces, a combination of brackets and wires, have moved into the 21st century. Metal brackets are smaller and less conspicuous; tooth-colored brackets blend with the color of teeth. Patients benefit from the use of NASA-developed technology: advanced "space-age" wires with built-in memory. The wires, which actually move the teeth under the orthodontist's supervision, deliver a light, continuous pressure. When they reach mouth temperature, the wires become active and "remember" their original shape. As the wires attempt to return to that shape, they gently guide the teeth into their correct positions. When compared to materials used as recently as a decade ago, today's high-tech materials can result in fewer and less frequent appointments, so patients require less time away from school or work, and the treatment time may be shorter.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), more than 5 million people in the U.S. and Canada are receiving care from AAO members, dental specialists who graduated from dental school and completed a minimum of two to three years of university-based training in an accredited orthodontic residency program. More than 1 million of these orthodontic patients are adults. Many are in their 40s, 50s and beyond.

Teeth tend to drift as people mature. Even those who were born with perfectly placed teeth can experience these unwanted changes. Many consult an orthodontist to rejuvenate their smile and get a healthy bite. Between 1994 and 2004, the number of adult patients grew by 37 percent. An estimated 63 percent of adult patients are women.

But some things never change. Orthodontic patients need to follow their orthodontist's instructions regarding elastic wear and good oral hygiene. Avoiding foods that are too hard, sticky, crunchy or chewy is also key. Such foods can damage braces, which may lengthen time spent in braces. Additionally, orthodontic patients need to see their dentist at least every six months for checkups and professional cleanings. Following these recommendations helps patients complete their treatment on time and with desired results.

Tummy Tuck Surgery At A Glance

The tummy tuck, known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure in which excess fat and skin is removed from the abdomen. This procedure can make a major improvement to the looks of anyone who has protruding abdominal muscles, as it will help tighten the muscles in the abdomen. Tummy tucks have become quite common for both men and women alike, especially those who have gone through a dramatic weight loss and are left with extra fat and a saggy tummy. The final result is a flatter and smoother abdomen.

As with any surgery, there are risks involved including infections, blood clots, scars that heal very slowly and the risk of a second operation to correct the complication. With a tummy tuck procedure, patients will often experience pain, bruising and swelling in the abdominal region, as well as numbness. Some of these side effects may last for as long as several months.

There are several types of abdominoplasty that can be performed to enhance the appearance of the abdomen and the type for you will depend on whether your surgeon feels a full tummy tuck is in order or a simpler procedure. The first is the actual abdominoplasty or full tummy tuck. This involves an incision from one hipbone to the next that goes around the belly button. The lower skin is removed from the abdomen region up toward the ribs and the surgeon will tighten the vertical abdomen muscles. Any extra fat is removed during surgery and the skin is stretched down and cut before the flap is sewn into place. There is also the option to get a mini tummy tuck that involves a smaller incision and less recovery time. The mini tummy tuck is an effective solution for those with smaller tummy problems.

The endoscopic tummy tuck is perfect for people with extra fat, but with skin that still has good elasticity. Through the use of small incisions and a tiny camera inserted into the abdomen, the abdomen muscles can be tightened and extra fat can be liposuctioned from the area. This leaves little scarring and is one of the most popular tummy tuck procedures performed. A panniculectomy is for those who have lost a large amount of weight and have a huge overlap of skin in the abdomen region. This skin is removed along with any excess fat.

The recovery time of a full tummy tuck is under six weeks and generally, within a 2 year period, the scars will fade and flatten. It is not uncommon for those who have had this procedure to experience pain in the area for several months after the surgery. It is important to follow-up with your surgeon should you experience any major pain or discomfort, as it could be a sign of infection.

If you are contemplating getting a tummy tuck cosmetic surgery, you’ll want to do your research before you follow through. Your physician can recommend a surgeon to assist you, however, you’ll want to make sure you interview several before deciding upon who will do the procedure. Make certain your surgeon understands what you are expecting from the surgery and make sure you understand exactly what this surgery will or will not do for you.

Many individuals are getting tummy tucks in order to enhance their appearance. The surgery itself is not complicated, but the surgeon will decide if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck. Women who are planning to have children in the future should wait to have this surgery and anyone that is considered to be obese or have a Body Mass Index over 27 should not have the surgery until they lose the necessary weight. The tummy tuck procedure is not a weight loss procedure. It is an enhancement surgery, designed to improve your looks.

Tummy Tucks and Scarring

Plastic surgeons are doing more and more tummy tucks as the effects of poor nutrition, stress and a lack of exercise takes affect on all of us. This brings up the issue of tummy tucks and scarring.

Tummy Tucks and Scarring

Many people who find that diet and exercise are not enough to shape their abdominal area are turning to abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty, which is also known as a tummy tuck, is one of the most common body sculpting plastic surgery procedures that is performed today. While this procedure is a relatively quick method for getting rid of that spare tire, you need to give some thought to the potential scarring that will result in some cases.

Tummy tuck scarring is very common after having the operation. The traditional tummy tuck procedure involves making a large cut horizontally across the lower abdomen from hip to hip. This cut allows surgeons to access the underlying abdominal area, where they can remove fat, tighten muscle and get rid of excess skin in the stomach area. Often, this procedure can require other areas to be cut and realigned such as the area around the navel or belly button. All of these cuts can, and will, leave scarring to some extent.

Luckily, most tummy tuck scarring is usually positioned below the waistline where bathing suit bottoms and underwear cover the scar from view. Some people are still upset by the idea of purposely inflicting a large mark on their body, however, it becomes an issue of weighing them against the excess skin and fat in the area. Furthermore, your plastic surgeon is not a mad scientist. They are trained to provide you with body enhancements, not large disfigurements. They will do everything possible to minimize scarring.

So, should your abandon the idea of undergoing abdominoplasty because of scarring? It is a decision that only you can make, but you must only make the decision when you have all of the facts. In this case, the facts mean sitting down with your plastic surgeon and reviewing pictures of other patients. The surgeon should have before and after pictures of tummy tuck patients. You can view their tummy tuck scarring and ask your plastic surgeon to identify the pictures that represent what he or she believe will be closest to yours.

Tummy tuck scarring sound like a serious matter and they are for some people. The key is to make an informed decision with your plastic surgeon after viewing before and after pictures. For most people, they are sufficiently small that they do not constitute a reason to avoid the surgery.

Too Much? Breast Reduction

Reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction, is a good cosmetic surgical procedure for a woman experiencing health problems and/or extreme self-consciousness associated with very large, heavy breasts. The goal is to give the woman a more attractive look with smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. She will then benefit from freedom of health problems associated with large breasts and an improved self-image.

Medical problems associated with very large breasts include back and neck pain caused from excessive weight, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Bra straps may leave shoulder indentations. Large, heavy breasts also contribute to poor posture, and can interfere with normal daily activities such as exercise. Excessive breast size may also lead to a decreased sense of attractiveness and self-confidence.

Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital. The surgery removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. After the surgery, the breasts are placed in a surgical bra that will hold them symmetrically during initial healing. The initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with painkillers. Scars will fade in 6-18 months.

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, breast reduction is a safe procedure. Nevertheless, as with any surgery, there is always a possibility of complications. Discuss this with a doctor before making your decision. If you do have this surgery, you can reduce your risks of side effects by closely following your physician's advice both before and after surgery.

Although your surgeon will make your scars as inconspicuous as possible, some permanent scarring is inevitable. Smokers are more likely to experience poor healing and wider scars. The good news is, your bra or bathing suit will cover whatever scars remain, and most likely, the scars will not prevent you from wearing low-cut tops. After recovery, life will go on as before.

Two Ways You Can Take Advantage of the Fabulous Moringa Tree Leaf

Zija is a Moringa Leaf drink. Moringa Zinga is a Moringa Leaf capsule. This article will help you decide which one is best for you.

Powdered moringa tree leaf is the world’s greatest unknown supplement. In short it gives energy, endurance, and mental clarity but it has many, many other benefits.

Moringa leaf is totally safe as it’s used by the World Health Organization to treat malnourished babies. Within a month after daily usage of moringa, infants with distended bellies and orange hair return to normal. If it’s safe for use in babies it’s certainly going to be safe for adults. Moringa leaf is used as a spice in cooking and also as a tea. Can’t get any safer than that!

The Moringa drink called Zija contains all the parts of the Moringa tree and other ingredients such as chlorophyll. It's a "proprietary" formula, which means that their recipe is their own, much like coca-cola. So it's hard to know what's exactly in it to compare with other moringa leaf products. They spent a lot of money in its formulation and they make good arguments why you should buy it. Ultimately, you make the decision. Either you feel better using a product or you don't.

You won't need any other vitamin or mineral supplements beyond the Zija drink. It is a totally natural source of over 90 vitamins, minerals, and other vital nutrients including multiple antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. Drink one 5.5 oz. can per day and receive the following benefits:

Antioxidants

Nourishes Body's Immune System

Promotes Healthy Circulatory System

Anti-Inflammatory

Provides a Sense of Well-Being

Supports Normal Blood Glucose Levels

Promotes Healthy Digestion

Increases Energy

Enhances Skin Health

Promotes Normal Liver and Kidney Function

Reduces the Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Promotes Normal Serum Cholesterol

Promotes Healthy Cell Structure

Nourishes the Eyes and Brain

Triggers Metabolism with Bioavailable Ingredients

Promotes Body's Natural Defenses

Zija is the first company to include the Moringa leaf in a health drink. A few more will follow. But only the small businessman, seeking to improve the health of people around the world, will be selling Moringa in its pure, powdered, encapsulated form.

If you want an apple do you settle for fruit salad? If you want the incredible benefits of the potent moringa leaf do you settle for a "formula" that contains just a bit of leaf?

Moringa Zinga, the capsule form of powdered moringa leaf, is an excellent source of nutrition and is a natural energy booster. This energy boost is not based on sugar so it is sustained. People also report their immune system strengthened, skin condition restored, blood pressure controlled, headaches and migraines handled, diabetes sugar level managed, inflammations and arthritis pains reduced, tumors restricted and ulcers healed.

Moringa Zinga capsules are 100% all natural, organic, and the capsules themselves are all vegetarian. The capsules are so safe that athletes and entertainment performers take as many as 10-20 capsules for performance enhancing reasons even though 1-4 capsules are the recommended daily dosage.

Whether you chose Zija or Moringa Zinga you’ve made a great decision for the quality of your life. Either way the Moringa tree leaf will bring you amazing results!

Tooth Whitening Through the Ages

Tooth whitening has been an effect people have been seeking for hundreds of years. The glow of a smile from clean teeth was a symbol of health, wealth status, and family upbringing. Sometimes having a healthy mouth overshadowed tooth whitening, but soon enough it became just as important as having healthy gums and strong teeth.

The Egyptians, Romans, and even during the dawn of man, knew the importance of good oral health. By using “chewing sticks”, which were small pieces of sticks worn down at one end; this enabled them to scrub the particles off of their teeth after a meal. After all, these periods of the human race needed their teeth in order to survive. The nearest dentist was at least 2000 years away, so dentures were entirely out of the question.

The Middle Ages brought forth the legendary barber and his red and white striped pole, (which was brought forth by hanging blood soaked bandages and clean, white bandages outside to dry, then being wrapped together by the wind, thus forming a pole). The barber, at this time had a dual role of cutting people’s hair and pulling their teeth. This was the important time of tooth whitening because it lead to greater social standing and was a label to the outside world that you had enough to eat, in which case, others did not. So, the barber’s role became to not only pull teeth, but to whiten them as well. He would file the teeth down and smudge corrosive nitric acid on them and in turn their teeth would have a beautiful luminous glow to them. However, the effect of this procedure led to the destruction of the enamel and then would lead to decayed teeth. Hopefully by this time they wouldn’t have to rely on their social graces to get through life, but on their personality like the rest of us.

The nitric acid (although destructive) was quite popular up to the 1800s, until the Italians came across people with stained, but cavity-free teeth. This was due to the high fluoride soil content. Along with these scientists’ research and other scientists from around the world, fluoride was labeled to be an important factor in healthy, white teeth. In many parts of the world it was added to the drinking water, thus becoming available to everyone. Even those that were unable to purchase toothpaste or mouthwash. Thanks to this fluoride finding, this gave dentists more time to focus their attention on tooth whitening, which would prove to be more profitable.

To the present day, tooth whitening has become a booming business, with a variety of ways to achieve that radiant smile while satisfying all price ranges. Dentists today, speak more on preventative care in order to have white teeth, such as staying away from coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, and even some medications. However, for those of us that need our daily cup of coffee and daily glass of red wine, there is a multitude of ways to getting your teeth whitened. You can do it at home by purchasing over-the-counter strips or by going to the dentist and receiving the latest and greatest procedure in tooth whitening (which luckily doesn’t contain nitric acid anymore).

Tooth whitening is available to everyone in the world, and you’d be surprised that some people (even to this day) still use “chewing sticks”. However, a radiant smile still means the same thing now, as it did then: health, wealth, and good family upbringing has been replaced with the importance of appearance.

Types of AMD

The two important types of age related macular degeneration are wet AMD and dry AMD. The forms can attack any one or both of the eyes. A patient diagnosed for dry AMD can later develop wet AMD.

Wet AMD: This type of age-related macular degeneration is caused by the abnormal growth of blood vessels behind the retina. This happens when the membrane underlying the retina breaks and disrupts the oxygen supply to the macula. The new blood vessels, which are very delicate, grow under the macula and often rupture easily leaking fluids and blood. This leaking alters the position of macula and causes scarring. Wet AMD occurs suddenly resulting in the loss of central vision.

Distorted vision and straight line appearing wavy are the initial symptoms of wet AMD. This is the most severe form of AMD and immediate professional advice should be taken.

Of all age-related macular degeneration cases, only 10% is due to wet AMD but it causes the maximum damage and can lead to blindness. If detected early, laser treatment can be effective in stopping the leak of the blood vessels causing wet AMD.

Dry AMD: Macula is made of light-sensitive cells and the breaking down of these cells leads to dry AMD. This type of age-related macular degeneration appears slowly and leads to the blurring of central vision. Of the two types, dry AMD occurs most commonly and is also known as atrophic AMD as it is caused by the death of the cells in macula.

Symptoms include slightly blurred vision, unable to recognize faces, unable to do simple tasks such as reading in normal light and require more light. An early sign of dry AMD is the yellow deposits, known as drusen, under the retina which can only be recognized by an ophthalmologist during an eye exam. Increase in size and number of drusen worsens dry AMD. Thinning of the macula is another symptom.

In the initial stages, dry AMD will go unrecognized as it can only be found by a detailed examination. Most people realize dry AMD during a later stage, when they need more light to do simple day-to-day activities like reading. A blurred spot in the center of vision is also seen by some people. It is wise to take professional advice during this stage.

In the advanced stage their will be a total breakup in vision with only peripheral vision seen clearly. This is mainly due to the increase in the size and number of drusen. Patients also lose color perception and recognizing faces becomes difficult in this stage. One of the major problems with dry AMD is that it impairs a single eye and since the other eye functions smoothly the problem goes unnoticed. Most people recognize the problem only when both of the eyes are affected.

Taking an active role in eye protection is very much necessary. While having an appointment with an ophthalmologist, clear all your doubts. The amount of literature available on eye diseases is huge and most of them can be downloaded from the Internet. Talk to your friends and relatives about your condition, they might offer helpful tips.

Tooth Whitening: Power of the Smile

It is said that the face is the mirror of the human mind. A beautiful face achieves results or good first impressions easily while the opposite provides an uphill struggle. Not surprisingly, our teeth draw in a great deal of attention and are a significant factor in judging attractiveness, so a clean, white smile can play a crucial role in how you are first perceived by many. Lustrous teeth portray our confidence and eventually help us to win the hearts of those we interact with.

Tooth whitening is a way of brightening the natural color of our teeth. This should be done without removing any of the tooth's surfaces and enamels. Enamels should not be affected during the process of tooth whitening as this may result in tooth decay and eventual failure, so harsher methods should not be applied despite their bleaching potency. It is not possible to make a complete color change; instead the existing shades are simply lightened.

One of the largest contributors to discolored teeth is the fact that we have moved away from the natural style of living and eating. The processed foods and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, as well as habits like smoking and drinking, are continuously staining our teeth. Tarter can also affect the color of our teeth.

Tooth whitening, also referred to as tooth bleaching, is an effort to remove these stains and discoloration. It is an aesthetic dentistry technique to lighten pigmentation within the teeth.

Professional bleaching is the most common form of tooth whitening; hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is commonly used for this purpose. This liberates oxygen to the teeth and oxidizes stains and cracks, thereby brightening the tooth color. For this process the gums are usually first covered with gels, and special trays are used to apply the materials. Normally this will be finished within 30-minutes to one hour.

Apart from this conventional cleaning, laser whitening methods (also referred to as power whitening ) are regularly employed now. In this process, after protecting gums with a suitable cover a bleaching product is painted onto the teeth. This product is then activated via laser beams, whereupon the light catalyzes the chemical reaction of the whitening product. This teeth whitening method is faster compared to the aforementioned one, and is more effective too. It can make your teeth six to eight shades lighter, but even though it has these advantages it is a far more costly option.

With at-home tooth whitening options, the dental patient has the bleaching materials with them at home and performs bleaching treatments of their own. Be careful, because this method lacks proper supervision and thus requires diligent application. Whitening teeth with peroxide bleaching compounds has become an extremely popular procedure, and as such whitening toothpastes are readily available in the markets. However they do not affect the natural color of your teeth, for they are aimed at removing the stains in the teeth thereby giving a better appearance to them.

In dental clinic based tooth whitening, it is done in a professional way under total supervision. They start with examining the health of the teeth, such as checking the teeth for cavities since tooth whitening gels can damage the cavities in the teeth. So as the first step any cavities are repaired, then the teeth are cleaned of any lingering plaque. A tray is then customized to fit the client's mouth. This custom prepared mouth tray with whitening gel is fitted and kept as such for ten to twenty days.

The effects of professional tooth whitening can last up to three years. However, the life of the result may vary from person to person and the living habits of each person. For persons that have smoking habits, alcoholics etc., the effect is not likely to last as long. Such habits can re-lodge stains and cavities in the teeth.

A few side effects are often reported after the tooth whitening. Some people find that their teeth have become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. To a few, discomfort in the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gum line occur due to teeth whitening. It is found that these symptoms are not long lasting to majority of the people. Any prolonged problem can be the results of other factors which require immediate attention of a dentist.

As shown above, once decolorized, the advance dental clinics can restore or create whiter teeth for us, but this can be maintained or its effects can be delayed if good practices are followed. It is advisable to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Excessive intake of sugar products are to be avoided. Alcoholic drinks and smoking habits are also not to be practiced, or at the least bit should be minimized. By following these basic practices, our teeth will offer a prolonged glow if supplemented by a yearly visit to a dentist.

Types of Contact Lens

Since the introduction of contact lenses years ago, the eye product has gone through various changes and innovations to meet the needs of the consumers. There are now more than ten types of contact lenses each with its own characteristics. You can get a prescription from an eye doctor and decide on your own which specific brand and type of lenses you want. If you find the task difficult, you can also ask the doctor for his suggested brands and contact lens type. The following are the types of contact lenses you can use depending on your needs and preferences:

Daily wear soft lenses made of soft polymer plastic, these contact lenses allow oxygen to pass through providing a higher level of comfort than rigid gas permeable lenses. Disposable soft lenses fall also under this category. They are called daily wear contact lenses because they require daily cleaning. Although most daily wear soft lenses are disposable there are also those that can be worn for one whole year. Disadvantages of these types of lenses include: easy absorption of oils and lotions from your hand which can irritate your eyes and also less durability than hard lenses

Disposable soft lenses- disposable soft lenses can be worn up to two weeks. They still require daily cleaning but they are not designed to last you months.

Daily wear disposable lenses- daily disposable lenses are lenses which you can only use for one day. They are discarded at days end. Although daily disposables are more affordable than yearly lenses, expenses can add up when you buy a year’s worth of disposable lenses. Using daily wear disposable lenses lowers your risk to eye infections.

Colored Soft Lenses- Colored soft lenses are perfect for those who want a fresh look. They serve the same purpose as color contact lenses except they do come in different tints. Some colored lenses contain tints not for aesthetic purposes. These light-filtering tinted lenses are for athletes or sports enthusiasts.

Extended-wear lenses- Extended-wear lenses are contact lenses that can be worn for several weeks, usually 30 days without having to remove them. They can come in either soft or gas permeable types. They are perfect for busy people who do not have the time to clean their lenses at the end of each day.

Daily wear rigid gas permeable lenses- these contact lenses are made of plastic that are not as soft or as absorbent as soft contact lenses but they allow oxygen to pass through them. They don’t tear as easily as soft lenses do but they can take a few weeks to get used to. These type of lenses also require daily cleaning.

Bifocal contact lenses are solutions for those who are suffering from presbyopia.

Toric Contact Lenses- this type of lenses are used to correct astigmatism. These contact lenses are also bi-focal. And can be made from soft lenses or gas permeable materials.

Orthokeratology lenses- these lenses are used for improving vision problems caused by the cornea’s shape. These lenses when worn overnight adjust the shape of the cornea so that the individual can have food eyesight the following day for up to 12 hours.

3. With time, more and more obese baby boomers will have to take recourse to plastic surgery. Los Angeles plastic surgery trends show a large number of baby boomers seeking the services.

4. More injectables – continuing an exciting trend which began with Botox.

Desire to remain young forever as strong as ever, more so in markets like New York and Los Angeles cosmetic surgery will be in vogue for a long time.

5. Lap Band is becoming a popular surgery option. Other variations include Gastric Band or Realize Band.

6. Los Angeles Breast Augmentation and Tummy Tuck Los Angeles are still the most popular plastic surgery related searches.

7. The stigma of plastic surgery is now almost nonexistent : Conservative societies like Asians and Hispanics are joining Caucasians and African Americans in embracing plastic surgery.

8. With huge increase in Medical Insurance costs, the fact that Plastic Surgery is not covered by insurance and has to be paid upfront (or via financing) is actually being welcomed by several consumers.

9. With all the hoopla about stem cell research, maybe harvesting cells from liposuction fat can be an option.

10. As all good things inevitably, it is a matter of time when politicians will start taxing elective cosmetic surgery a lot, and then we will have offshore plastic surgery outsourcing.

Till then, happy cosmetic surgery folks..

Types of Cosmetics

Make-up and cosmetics are used all over the world by all kinds of different people. Cosmetic products are defined as, “a substance or preparation intended for placement in contact with any external part of the human body”. This definition can include a variety of products.

Shampoos and soaps are products that usually contain some kind of fragrance and clean the skin by the use of surface-active agents, or surfactants. These surfactants are molecules that have both lipophilic and hydrophilic, or fat soluble and water soluble parts. The fat soluble part of the product clings to the oil and dirt as the water soluble part allows the lipophilic part to be washed away. Detergents for dishes and clothes work in pretty much the same way but will have different ingredients that make them more harsh for use on hard, solid surfaces. It is usually not a good idea to try and use these detergents on the body and hair, for it can lead to irritation.

Lipstick is another cosmetic product that contains hydrophilic properties. They are manufactured by combining wax, a non-volatile oil such as beeswax with castor oil, and water. The combination produces a thick substance that is water-insoluble and spreads easily on the lips. Because of its lipophilic properties, lipstick won’t dissolve on the lips when exposed to saliva or liquid from drinks. Other lipsticks will have a dye in them that react to amino acids on the top layer of the skin. This makes the the product appear blue or green in the container and change to red when applied to the lips.

When water is lost on the top layer of dead skin cells faster than the living cells under them can absorb the moisture our skin becomes dry. This is when we need the help of a moisturizer. When the skin becomes dry and scaly, moisturizers can assist by preventing further water loss, known as occlusion, and by adding humectants, substances that increase the hydrophilic properties of the skin. Humectant moisturizers contain substances such as alpha hydroxy acids or glycerine and add moisture to the top layer of skin while occlusive moisturizers form a waterproof layer over the skin that reduces moisture and allows the body’s natural rehydration process to return the layer to a normal level.

Top 3 Reasons to Consider Laser Hair Removal

The laser hair removal industry is experiencing a surge in growth and there are many good reasons for it. The process of has undergone many changes over the years and as technology improves so do the results that are experienced by people that decide to get it. For those of you that may be thinking about getting it done, here are 3 benefits to it:

-The results are permanent

This is one of the key benefits to getting this procedure done because in most cases it is a one time process. For those that use shaving to remove hair, this is a key benefit, as you do not have to deal with stubble that keeps growing back and that you have to remove more and more frequently. Also many clinics offer 2 to 5 year guarantees that your hair will not grow back otherwise they will refund you or offer to remove the hairs that grew back.

-The process is less painful

We all know the pain and suffering that is endured by those that use wax to rip the hair out of the follicle. Tweezing does not offer any pain relief either. The process is generally quite painless as the lasers are designed to target the hair follicle only and not the skin around the hairs. Most patients report feeling a warm soothing sensation as the hairs are targeted by the laser.

-Laser hair removal cost less in the long term and saves you time

The cost can vary depending on the location and size of the region but it is important to think long term when you are looking at the price tag. Remember that this is a one time procedure, so you will not need to buy any more wax, or pay someone else to remove your unwanted hairs. Another great benefit is that it saves you lots of time because once it is completed there is no need to tend to that area again. Think about how much time that can save you over the course of 5, 10 or 15 years.

Technological advances have really contributed to expanding this market and people from all over the world are now reaping the benefits of this procedure. A large percent of the patients are men, who can benefit by getting hair removed from their backs. Many male bodybuilders use the procedure to remove hair from the chest and shoulders too. As you can see, there are many advantages to laser hair removal and its popularity will continue to grow

Types of Teeth Whitening

Whiter teeth are a staple in the health and beauty industry. Never would you see a model or celebrity with yellow or stained teeth. Let's face it, whiter teeth brings confidence. There are several ways for the average person to obtain a whiter and brighter smile, here are the most popular.

Dentist Whitening

We will start out at the priciest end of the spectrum with professional whitening in dental office. Most dentists use a Carbamide Peroxide in the form of a gel and provide customized dental trays molded by plaster casts of your teeth. These trays reduce the risk of whitening lines due to the fact they are made just for you. In contrast, most at-home-kits provide the same Carbamide Peroxide, just not the form fitting tray. Dentists charge up to $600 for this treatment, mainly to cover time and office costs.

At Home Whitening Gels

For a much cheaper price, we are able to obtain whiter teeth in the comfort of our own home by using at-home-kits. Most of these kits contain the same strength Carbamide Peroxide formula as your dentist or possibly a more powerful formula. Another benefit of at home whitening is the price. You're not paying a dentist or his employees, so you will find yourself paying hundreds less than you would at a dental office. Some quality kits can go as low as $39! The only real downside of an at home kit is the quality of the dental tray as it's typically a boil and bite mouthpiece. You may find these a little less comfortable than their dentistry counterpart.

Whitening Strips

The results from whitening strips are usually less than desired. Major brands and off-brands have been known to disappoint, showing a mild effect over the course of a month. The problem is that most pharmaceutical backed companies are looking for a way to make a reoccurring profit from it's consumers. Thus keeping a weaker product on the shelves keep you coming back until desired results are acquired. In some cases this could be months or years.

Whitening Toothpastes

Whitening toothpastes seem to have little or no effectiveness. I myself recently tested a popular toothpaste brand, known for it's supposed whitening power. I realized that at most, one line of past could only contain a mild active ingredient and you would have to brush your teeth for an hour for any noticeable result over a period of a month. Whitening toothpastes seem to be a marketing ploy that sells more from us being so eager for improvement.

In conclusion, the real contenders here are Dental and At home Whitening Kits. They will provide you with your desired results in the shortest amount of time. Saying that, at home whitening kits allow you to save hundreds of dollars and the peace and quiet of your own home... and no eerie dentist offices.

Your exposure to wind, sun, pollutions and even air conditioning could block the pores of your skin. You don’t have to run to the beautician to clean your skin. Just dip a piece of cotton wool in the milk and wipe your skin. You could also dip the cotton wool in almond oil and clean the skin under your eyes.

Tip #2: Eat Healthy Food

Chocolate, candies, French fries and Pizzas! As delicious as they are, these food items are deemed to be the enemies of your skin. They could cause blemishes and make your skin oily. It is hard to digest the fact, but reduce the intake of these delicacies for the betterment of your skin.

Tip #3: Exercise Regularly

The tasteless water could very well help in improving your complexion. Eight glasses of water along with regular exercise could have a positive impact on your complexion. What kind of exercises? Walking, running, jogging or even engaging in sports could have the desired effect on your skin.

Tip #4: Replace Your Dead Skin Cells

Don’t ignore dead skin cells. Note that you have to exfoliate at least twice a week to replace your dead skin cells. Do you have broken capillaries? In that case, care should be taken before exfoliating.

Tip #5: Reduce Exposure to the Sun

Is it possible to escape the ill effects of hot sun? Exposure to the sun could leave your skin with blotches and premature wrinkles. Do you have to go out between 10: am and 3: pm? In that case, wear sun glasses and wide rimmed hats to prevent direct exposure to the sun.

Tip #6: Use Natural Moisturizer

Is your environment surrounded by pollutants and dust? Then, it would be better for you to use a natural moisturizer. These moisturizers can protect and hydrate your skin. How do you prepare a nourishing mask at home? Blend white cosmetic clay with mashed banana and apply on your face. Wash after a few minutes.

Tip #7: Avoid Excessive Use of Cosmetics

Excessive use of cosmetics could have an adverse effect on your skin and health. People remain unaware that most of the cosmetics contain dangerous chemicals like parabens, thus paving way for cancer. If not cancer, these chemicals could cause serious allergies. So, it is better to minimize the excessive use of cosmetics.

Tip #8: Maintain Healthy Lifestyle

Are you addicted to alcohol and cigarettes? Then, you are sure to get all kinds of skin problems. Wrinkles and blotches may find haven in your skin. Stay away from alcohol and cigarettes if you want healthy skin. Try to stay cool, so as to avoid fatigue and stress.

Taking care of your skin is hardly a difficult process. Healthy lifestyle with proactive skin care could leave the right impact on your skin. Care for your skin and it would never betray you.

Understanding Hair Growth To Lose Unwanted Hair

Hair growth is one of the most amazing aspects of the human body. And, although you have thousands of hairs all over your body, you probably think nothing of it. Did you know that once a fetus is about 22 weeks old he has developed five million follicles all over his body? And, that is all he will ever have too. Now, what else can we learn about the biology of hair?

What’s It Made Of?

The anatomy of a strand of hair is amazing. First, there is the follicle which is actually embedded into the skin. The hairs grow from the follicle through a shaft. The papilla lies at the base of the follicle as one of the many layers of the follicle. Next, capillaries help to connect the papilla to the blood supply. These surround the bottom of the hair called the bulb.

There are two sheaths that are in place to protect the hair shaft from being damaged surrounding the follicle. In one of them, runs next to the hair shaft and stops at the sebaceous gland. The other, the outer sheath, runs from the glad and stops at the erector pili muscle.

Keratin is dead protein cells that are what make up the hair shaft. The inside layer of them is the medulla. The second is the cortex and it provides the most hair shaft. Hair color is determined in this layer. The cuticle is the outside most layer and it has a series of overlapping cells. The luster of the hair comes from this layer.

How Growth Happens

Hair growth happens in three main stages. Did you know that your hair will only grow .3 to .4 millimeters per day? That is only six inches per year! Although it seems like it grows much more it really does not.

The Stages:

Catagen Phase: This is the transition phase. It lasts about two to three weeks. There is no hair growth now, as the goal is for the outer portion of the hair root sheath to shrink and then attach itself to the root.

Telogen Phase: The resting period. About 15% of your hair is in this stage at any given time. It takes about 100 days for the scalp hair and much longer for the body hair to go through this stage.

Anagen Phase: Hair cells are dividing and new hair growth is happening. It can last for as long as two to six years! Do you have trouble growing your hair long? This happens because your hair in this stage does not last nearly this long.

What Can Go Wrong?

There are several hair abnormalities that can happen. These hair disorders can strike just about anyone, but are in most cases rare. One, hirsutism is when individuals, mostly women, have excessive hair growth that is in odd places. For most women, the hair is darker and coarser than it should be. It can occur on the face, chest or the areola.

Another condition known as hypertrichosis is very rare and happens when individuals suffer from hair that grows thickly in areas of the body that it normally would not.

These conditions can be treated fairly well if help is sought out. Hair growth, while a very common and seemingly ordinary thing, actually is much more complex than people imagine. But, understanding how it works can help you to understand how to rid your body of unwanted hair.

Top Tips For Choosing The Right Hair Dryer

If you have been shopping for a new hair dryer lately, you were no doubt confronted with a wide range of choices. From inexpensive conventional hair dryers that cost about $10 to professional hair dryers that can cost ten times that much, there really is a large and confusing array of hair dryer options to choose from.

So, how can you sort through the many to find the perfect hair dryer for your particular needs and hair type? The answer lies in becoming familiar with the different types of hair dryers so that you can purchase the one that you really need and avoid the ones that are unnecessarily tricked out.

As mentioned earlier, the purchase of a new hair dryer can be quite inexpensive or very expensive depending on the hair dryer that you choose. While, choosing a hair dryer because it is dirt cheap is never a good option, you can cut your costs by choosing a hair dryer that has only the options that you will really use. In order to aid you in your quest, I have separated, according to cost, the different types of hair dryers that you will likely see on your next shopping trip.

" Inexpensive hair dryers ($5 - $20) can be found in almost any store. While inexpensive hair dryers may not cost a lot when you first purchase them, they can cost you a great deal when it comes to hair damage. Since most inexpensive hair dryers only come equipped with one temperature setting, you can literally blast your tresses to death with the unchecked heat from one of these babies. The only time an inexpensive hair dryer is a good idea is if you hardly ever use one, if your hair is extremely short or if you only use a hair dryer briefly to set your gel.

" Moderately expensive hair dryers ($20 - $50) come equipped with most of the settings that you will need for daily use of the hair dryer. Most feature multiple temperature settings and a cool blast button for drying brittle hair or for setting in curl. Most often this is the hair dryer that is perfect for everyone.

" Professional hair dryers ($50 - $100+) can only be purchased at a beauty supply store or through a professional catalogue. While these hair dryers are geared toward repeated use by professionals, they can be beneficial to use at home if you are willing to pay the price. Many of these hair dryers are ultra quiet and feature new drying technologies such as ionic energy to cut your hair drying time in half. They infuse moisture and only cause very minimal damage.

As with all thermal styling tools, hair dryers cause damage to the hair shaft. Incorrect or repeated, high-temperature use of a hair dryer can leave your hair looking dull and frizzy. To make sure that this does not happen to you, always keep the hair dryer 10" from your hair and point the stream of air down the hair shaft. Failure to do so can result in heat bubbles forming on the hair shaft or a blown cuticle, which causes dullness and frizz.

While the type of hair dryer that you purchase may have an impact on how much damage you get from using a hair dryer on your hair everyday, the main culprit of damage is misuse of the hair dryer. So, make sure that you have a good quality hair dryer and that you are using it properly. Your hair will thank you for it by remaining shiny and healthy for years to come.

Understanding Laser Hair Removal

If you have heard about laser hair removal, then you are likely to be one of the many that believe it is an easy way to get rid of unwanted hair. Although many people do find great success with the treatments, others will need several to succeed. And, there is no real way to know how you will react to the laser treatment until you have it.

Who Should Have It?

The ideal candidate for laser hair removal is the person who has dark colored hair. The darker the hair the more likely it is that the laser can remove it permanently. With that goes the pigment color of the skin. Individuals who have a dark complexion will not be ideal candidates because the hair is harder to see. Light skin, dark hair is the best situation to find yourself in.

You will also need to have a good budget. Sessions of laser hair removal can last upwards of several hours and will require several thousand dollars to complete. If you need multiple treatments, that too can become even more costly. The average is four visits per person.

Melanin is the pigment that gives hair color. You will need the melanin to be able to absorb the energy from the laser and then incorporate the heat into the follicle. The heat will actually kill off the follicle, making it impossible for hair to re-grow. Also, those who have a dark colored skin tone have more melanin, it is necessary to insure that the process will still work well. To help this, a cold compress will be used to keep the affected area cool. The laser will not target the cold areas which are important for it to work properly.

The skin can be kept cool in another way as well. This is multi pulsing laser technology. Laser energy is pulsed or interrupted, rather than streamed. That means there is less heat which helps to cool and at the same time, protect the skin. Other laser removal devices include: Alexandrite, a long pulse laser; Diode, which generally is used on darker skin; Q-Switched Nd:YAG, which delivers two wavelengths that work on both deep and near-surface follicles; and Ruby, that as the name implies, consists of red laser beams capable of targeting melanin.

There are a number of excellent resources on the internet that will help you to discover why or why not laser hair removal is the right solution for you.

With all the new fragrances coming out this year, which ones will you pick? The fragrance industry has been introducing over 200 new fragrances each year. Being a fragrance store owner, www.elitestop.net; it is very important to keep up on the new fragrances and trends in the industry.

In the last few years celebrities have been coming out with great fragrances including Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and many others. Celebrities have been changing the trends of the fragrance industry, lately. For example, if a celebrity has a hit movie or album and has a great smelling fragrance, the sales of the fragrances will increase dramatically. The more popular the celebrity is the better the sales of the fragrances.

The top winter celebrity fragrance trends of 2007 are Usher, Sean Combs, Gwen Stefani, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mariah Carey, Elizabeth Taylor, and Britney Spears. I chose these celebrities because of their great fragrances and celebrity status.

Understanding Laser Hair Removal: Part Two

How should you choose the location to perform your laser hair removal? Because it is such a costly investment and it is really something the outcome can not be predicted for, you really should invest the time in finding the right company to take your business to. The goal is to find the most experienced individual.

Some companies will try to lure you in with discounts. Others will make promises of complete, permanent hair loss. The goal here is not to look for these individuals and these rates. You need quality. If you have to go in several times, each time costing you several thousand dollars for your laser treatment, you are not saving any money in the long run. Instead, just visit an experienced individual and get a good treatment from the start.

Pre Screening

Once you do find a quality individual to take your laser needs to, you’ll need to be prescreened for the procedure. There are a few things that you can do to make sure that you get the best treatment in the long run. For example, do not suntan near the time of your treatment as this can make a large difference in the outcome. You can also benefit from not eating a large amount of foods that are rich in beta carotene such as carrots. These can change the pigment of your skin enough to cause the flow of laser energy to the hair follicle to be stopped. A couple of days before you have the treatment shave. But, make sure this is several days before so that your hair is still growing but not too short either.

What Happens

Once you get into the location, get your protective goggles in place and relax, the procedure will begin. All that happens is a laser is turned on, it passes through the skin to the hair follicle and destroys it. That’s the extent of it. The procedure is not painful and is not necessarily harmful. You may experience some side effects such as some reddening of the area, swelling or a burning sensation. Most of these are only temporary and will be gone within a few seconds.

Why Do It?

Why should you invest the time and the money in a procedure like this? First off, it is not an invasive procedure; there are no gross creams, cuts from razors or a lot of hard work involved. And, once the process is complete, that’s it. You won’t have to shave again tomorrow. And, while it may grow back, the hair will be lighter and harder to see if it does.

What you do have to overcome though is the fact that it may not work for everyone. And, it can be costly especially when there is a need for several treatments. You may need to see the technician for follow up treatments.

So, is laser hair removal the right choice for you? Can you afford to have the procedure done? Is your skin and hair color the right combination? Find an experienced technician to talk to and really find out if this could be the right way for you to stop having to worry about hair growth.

Understanding the Risks of Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the more popular plastic surgeries given the heft of most Americans. As with any surgery, there are risks you should understand

Understanding the Risks of Liposuction

When you decide on having liposuction, or any plastic surgery, there are many factors that should go into your decision to proceed. What procedure to have done, where to have the surgery performed, which doctor to choose for your surgery and the result you can reasonably expect should come into play. As with any surgery, you should also consider the risks, in this case the risks of liposuction.

You need to remember that liposuction is a surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia, invasive entrance to and manipulation of your body. The technique of liposuction requires fluid, which often includes an anesthetic called lidocaine, to be pumped under the skin of the area to be liposuctioned. Epinephrine is also added to this fluid to slow bleeding, and then the area is cut into and a hollow instrument called a cannula is stuck into the area in question. This cannula is attached to a strong vacuum that sucks the fatty material out of the area that needs the removal procedure completed.

This process can carry risks. A very high percentage of surgeries have no complications whatsoever, but occasionally there can be problems. Statistics show that deadly complications occur .0002 of the time for all surgeries. For instance, there were five deaths from liposuction procedures in New York City between the years of 1993-1998. The patients were reported to have died from such problems as fluid overload (from the fluid used to numb and prepare the area), low blood pressure from the lidocaine added to the fluid and blood clots. Other deaths over the years have been caused by interactions between the lidocaine anesthetic and other medications the patients were taking. Obviously, it is crucial that you tell your plastic surgeon what medications, if any, you are taking.

Obviously, death is a rare occurrence with liposuction, so lets discuss side effects. Side effects such as bruising, swelling, misshapen areas can happen after having liposuction. There is also the possibility of not getting the outcome you expected and needing further surgery to correct the issues. Temporary numbness in the surgical area and scarring are also common risks of liposuction.

Before you choose to have liposuction, make sure you have considered the potential risks of liposuction carefully. Discuss the risks associated with liposuction with your plastic surgeon and make an informed decision.
